Thanks Convert!
Blake Comeau, Peter Mueller, Cam Barker, Wojtek Wolski, Guillaume Latendresse, Jack Hillen, Gilbert Brule, Benoit Pouliot, Marc-Andre Gragnani, Ryan Parent, Eric Fehr, ... Hm. Comeau, Mueller, Wolski, Fehr, and Latendresse have all scored 20 goals in a season. Latendresse scored 25 in 55 games... for the defensive-minded Wild. Brule and Pouliot almost got to 20 a couple times. (And side note: Pouliot was traded straight up for Latendresse a few years ago.) Lot of former first round picks, there. |

12 years -- through 2025 -- about $8.7M per. To be signed on Sunday. Crosby is currently (ONLY!) 24. He'll be 36 at the end of the deal. edit: Oh, and we can quickly take Blake Comeau off the list, as he re-signed with Calgary 1 year, $1.25M. Meanwhile, the Caps sent pending UFA Wideman to Calgary, which promptly re-signed him: "The Calgary Flames have signed defenceman Dennis Wideman to a five-year, $26.25 million contract after acquiring his rights from the Washington Capitals in exchange for blueliner Jordan Henry and a 2013 fifth-round draft pick. Wideman, 29, was set to become an unrestricted free agent." http://www.tsn.ca/tradecentre/story/?id=399374 |

Man, the owners are really strengthening their bargaining position on wanting contract limits and crying poverty with the contracts we've seen in the last few days for Wideman, Crosby, and Quick.
Any lockout of any length would be a total joke. Sure there are issues, but they sure don't act like it. The one thing I think would be fair is to make the minimum spend a percentage of the full cap v. a straight 16M less. I could see the players give up some revenue percentage points for dropping the escrow. That's about it...just get it done....and I bet we see a few more of these contracts in the next week |

I'm glad I'm not the GM that has to make that call. It's an especially tough call when you have to decide to let a player like Jordan Staal go in order to make this deal. disclaimer: Don't get pissy about my coloring books comment. I understand that head injuries are serious. |

I've never been clear about the league rule on salaries for injured players but, If he gets the whole amount regardless of playing, this is a risky investment. *note that I modified the original quote. |

I understand the skill level of Crosby and agree that he deserves to get paid, but post concussion issues cost him almost a year and a half of playing time. We know first hand from the David Tanabe issue just how sensitive these things are. Medical science has gotten a lot better in it's understanding of concussions and their cumulative effects. It seems that in sports, some athletes are just more likely to suffer these effects (not a scientific "fact", just what it appears to me at least). Each athlete is only going to be able to bounce back from a certain amount of head injury effects. I'd say Sid has been to that bank a couple of times already. I don't know the insurance and contract ramifications, but that's a long time to be on the hook when there are concussion issues. |

Edmonton got the new rock star (Schultz). I imagine having Paul Coffey and Wayne Gretzky call and tell you how great it is has to be pretty convincing.

I hope he stinks. While you gotta put some of this on the media, he definitely played a part in the hullabaloo around this.

Why? Because he chose not to go to the team that drafted him? The CBA permitted it. Blake Wheeler did the same thing to Phoenix and landed in Boston. It happens. We were faced with the same likely scenario in 2006 and took steps to at least flip Jerk Johnson for some players and unloaded a bad contract.

I don't get all the hubaloo around Schultz. I think a lot of it is.... it's the offseason, and a break from talking about FAF.
Is it hullaboo or hubaloo or huballoo or hubballo if y'r from Yankeetown? |

It's hullabaloo.
If I were an Anaheim fan, I'd hate Schultz for sure. As it is, he's a scrub for ruling out my team (but that's nothing unusual, lol) but otherwise, I don't really care. |

Regarding Schultz. Anaheim has every right to be pissed. But the hullaboo was caused by the media. He didn't do anything he shouldn't have done when making a big decision about your life. Can't fault the kid for wanting to meet with the respective teams and see how you would fit with their club.

I have mixed thoughts about the whole Schultz thing, but overall, I thought the guidance he received on how to handle this and how he called each team he declined was really a classy move.
