Hello all,
Long-time reader, first time poster. My name is Andrew Hirsh, and I’ve covered the Canes for the past two seasons for The Hockey Writers and Inside Hockey.

I decided to finally join this board and start posting in hopes of bridging the gap between the Hurricanes media and fan base. I haven’t been in North Carolina for a long time, but it is my understanding that Caniacs aren’t exactly content with the coverage of their team. It is my hope to change that as much as possible.

A little about myself: I was born in Atlanta, Georgia and fell in love with the sport of hockey through the now-defunct Thrashers, who I blindly supported from Day 1 until the franchise’s relocation last summer. I played competitively through high school up in Massachusetts and will continue to play until my body prohibits me from doing so.

I hope that joining this message board and interacting with you, the fans, will give me a better understanding of the team moving forward as I try and progress as a journalist. I take pride in my knowledge of the game and the NHL, but as a former fan myself, I also know that those who are the most passionate about a given team often have the most valuable perspectives. I also hope that my presence here at LGC.com will provide you all with a few beneficial insights from my end as well.

If there was one benefit to growing up a Thrashers fan, it’s that I’ve become virtually impervious to verbal bashing.
